Editorial Standards
These standards guide every article Global Meld publishes. They exist so that you know what to expect from us — and can hold us to it.
Accuracy is our first obligation. Before publication, reporters and editors check names, figures, dates and quotations against primary sources wherever possible — official statements, court documents, government data, company filings and direct interviews. When a fact rests on another publication’s reporting, we say so and link to it.
Developing stories are labelled as such, and we update them as verified information becomes available. If we cannot confirm a claim, we either attribute it clearly to its source or do not publish it.
Every news article ends with a list of sources so readers can follow our work. We prefer on-the-record sources. Anonymous sources are used only when the information is important, cannot be obtained otherwise and the source’s reliability has been assessed by an editor. We never invent quotes, composite characters or scenes.
Global Meld is editorially independent. Advertisers, sponsors and partners have no influence over our coverage. Sponsored content, if published, will be clearly labelled and kept separate from news reporting. Staff must disclose potential conflicts of interest and step away from stories where a conflict exists.
We aim to represent competing viewpoints accurately, particularly on contested political and social issues. People and organisations facing serious allegations are given a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication. We distinguish clearly between news reporting, analysis and opinion.
When we make a mistake, we correct it promptly and transparently. Significant corrections are noted at the end of the article with a description of what changed and when. Minor fixes such as typos may be made without a note. To request a correction, contact the newsroom with the article link and details of the error.
Our editors may use software tools, including AI-assisted tools, for tasks such as research support, transcription, translation checks and headline testing. Every article is reviewed and approved by a human editor who is responsible for its accuracy. We do not use AI-generated images to depict real news events.
We use photographs from reputable sources and licensed libraries, credited where required. Illustrative images are chosen to reflect a story’s subject without implying that they show the specific event being reported unless stated. Images are not altered in ways that mislead.
